Interim evaluation confirms added value of European Education Area

The European Commission’s interim evaluation of the 2021–2024 phase of the European Education Area (EEA) confirms its significant added value in fostering cooperation among EU Member States. The EEA has helped align national education reforms with shared European objectives, boosted the use of EU funding instruments, and strengthened the European dimension of education. Over 1,000 stakeholders contributed to the evaluation, which found that the EEA supports long-term policy transformation through structured dialogue and knowledge sharing. Key recommendations include clarifying strategic priorities, strengthening links across education sectors, improving monitoring, and reinforcing synergies with the European Research Area and the European Higher Education Area. These findings will inform the development of updated priorities and a roadmap for the next phase of the EEA from 2026 to 2030.
